POURSTEADY The Robot-Brewed Pour-over
The trend for specialty coffee has been gaining momentum and its popularity appears to be ever-growing. The movement has seen many coffee shops now providing customers with a choice of specialty coffee in order to be up-to-date as well as maintain their customer base. Aside from cafés, it seems that many individuals are now starting to brew specialty beans at home themselves.
Single-origin specialty coffee that has become popular include beans originating from Panama, Ethiopia, and Kenya. Thailand, too, has its own unique specialty beans. The price of these specialty coffee beans can vary, and often leans towards a higher price point starting from over a hundred baht per serving.Aside from the geography, climate and the process leading up to end product, the roasting and brewing techniques also play a crucial part.To maintain the unique aroma and flavors of specialty coffee, popular brewing methods include Pour-over and cold brew. For a barista, cold brew and pour-over coffee demand for a higher technique and skills. When brewing coffee at home for yourself, making some mistakes along the way can be a fun journey of discovery. However, when it comes to opening a coffee shop, making bad coffee is the last thing you would want to do. But what to do if a skilled barista is hard to come by?
With such limitations, Bon Academy is happy to introduce the Poursteady, a robot-brewed pour-over machine from the United States that will assist anyone who wishes to serve specialty coffee. For owners who prefer to do the pour-over themselves, this machine can come in handy in the occasion that you are not present at your coffee shop.
Invented in 2013 in Brooklyn, New York, the Poursteady is created by Stuart Heys and Mark Sibenac an engineer who specializes in robotics with a background working for NASA and the U.S. Military In collaboration with product designer Stephan von Muehlen, now the CEO of Poursteady Equipment Corporation, they launched the Poursteady Robot-Brewed Pour-over in 2015. Targeted at cafés that wish to serve fresh pour-overs by the cup, the Poursteady is a solution to less labor at a higher speed but with a consistent flavor.
The Poursteady comes in two models with a choice of 3 and 5 group heads to suit caféés of all sizes. Easy to use, the group heads can be operated simultaneously with each group head focusing on different coffee profiles. The profiles can be set up via the Poursteady
application, where users can select the equipment (V6 or Chemex), the ration, filter paper rinsing and even the blooming, the water level, and the movement and magnitude of the swirl. This allows for a consistent flavor while bringing out the characteristics of the specialty coffee. The machines do not require baristas with high techniques, making it ideal for coffee shop owners. Visually, the machine has been designed to appear compact and modern. The easy-to-use functions mean that the customers can now share a conversation with the barista.
Launching the Poursteady during THAIFEX-World of Food Asia 2019, Boncafé (Thailand) Ltd. received an overwhelming response from visitors. However, for those who have missed the opportunity, Boncaféé would like to invite you to test out the Poursteady machine at the Boncafé Showroom on Ratchadapisek road.
