The middle way concept refers to moderation. It is about steering clear from either extreme, about doing not too little or too much. In other words, the middle way is a practice of balance. All consumers should then strive to determine what the right balance is for themselves and their health.
Several nutrition experts have expressed concern for the health impacts of excessive sugar and caffeine consumption. However, they also remind us of the fact that insufficient intake can affect health in a different way as well. Therefore, we suggest you two ways to help curb your consumption as follows.
A bit less sweet…
The recommended daily intake of sugar is six teaspoons, according to the World Health Organization. This may come as a surprise to many because there can well be 12 teaspoons of sugar in a bottle of your regular beverage alone. Then we have more sugar from other food and sweets in the three meals of the day. It is, as such, horrifying to think how much sugar we consume each day. Excessive consumption of sugar can result in long-term health issues. With that said, let’s not be overly fixated with this recommended intake level at this moment. We know that it will be hard for you to cut down on your intake, especially if you normally have things quite sweet. And a sudden drop can provoke mood swings anyway. What you can do now is to gradually reduce your sugar intake level little by little. A reduction of even one teaspoon per day will help reduce the risks of diseases considerably. You may consider using sugar replacement as an alternative to real sugar as well.
A touch less strong…
Too much of nothing is good. Caffeine is not an exception. If you want to drink coffee but your body is not built for a large dose of caffeine or if you are allergic to it, try decaffeinated coffee as the level of caffeine would have been reduced to the minimal. Decaf coffee is a perfect solution for health-conscious coffee drinkers and for those who prefer to avoid caffeine.
