Although coffee drinking is growing in popularity, coffee
consumption in Thailand is still
very low with less than half a kilo per person per year
(in contrast to Finland's average of
14 kilograms, Germany's 8 kilograms, Italy's 5 kilograms,
USA's 4.5 kilograms, Japan's
2.5 kilograms). Consumption growth of all kinds of coffee-related
beverages is estimated
to be in the range of 20-30% per annum.
Coffee is mainly consumed hot as soluble coffee and
cold as canned beverage.
The gourmet coffee market, which depends on coffee makers
for brewing fresh coffee, is basically limited to hotels,
restaurants, pubs, clubs and other food and beverage
outlets.
